Defense of the Eternal Preexistence of Jesus Christ Throughout church history, the Christian Church has always maintained faith in the Doctrine of the Triune nature of Almighty God, affirming the essential Biblical truth that within the one true and living God exists three distinct persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and that Jesus Christ preexisted before His incarnation.

One of the egregious errors of the Unitarian position regarding the Trinity pertains to the Preexistence and deity of Jesus Christ.

By Pre-existence we mean, that the body of Jesus Christ, began with it's conception in the Womb, however, the mind and soul of Jesus existed before the conception of His earthly body. Jesus is unique in that He alone possesses a soul that pre-existed His conception in the womb of His mother. Whereas, all other humans begin to exist at conception, the Son of God pre-existed His entrance into the World. The Deity of Christ and eternal preexistence is openly denied by the Unitarians.

The Unitarians believe that God is only one person and that Jesus Christ is not God, the second person of the Trinity who is co-equal with the Father and deny the personhood and deity of the Holy Spirit as well. They argue that Christ did not actually physically exist as a person before the incarnation, rather he existed in the foreknowledge and plan of God. Anthony Buzzard, one of the leading modern Unitarian scholars argues in his book says that the Prexistence statements in the NT really have to do with predestination and foreordination and not that Christ pre-existed in eternity past.
On Page 176 of this same work, Buzzard writes, the view of Jesus as uncreated" is not derived from scripture; rather, it has been handed down through post-biblical tradition."

Again, on Page 181 and 182 Buzzard writes,
"Talk of Jesus preexistence [in Scripture] ought probably in most, perhaps in all cases, to be understood, on the analogy of the preexistence of the Torah, to indicate the eternal divine purpose being achieved through him rather than preexistence of a fully personal kind. " On Page 184 Buzzard quotes James Dunn in stating,

"Outside of John's gospel, there is no doctrine of a literal preexistence."However, this Unitarian denial of the eternal pre-existence of the Lord Jesus Christ is easily refuted by Holy Scripture. The Bible is very clear that Jesus Christ is God and that he personally existed in eternity past before His Incarnation via the virgin Birth. It must be noted that the entire Unitarian line of argumentation against the doctrine of the Trinity and its denial of the deity and pre-existence of Christ can be demonstrated to be in absolute error if it can be shown from Scripture and the original languages of the Bible, that Jesus Christ personally existed at least one day before His incarnation. The following Scriptures clearly demonstrate that Jesus Christ did personally pre-exist before His incarnation and easily refute the heretical errors of Unitarianism argued for by own opponents in this debate. Micah 5:2 2"But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Too little to be among the clans of Judah, From you One will go forth for Me to be ruler in Israel His goings forth are from long ago, From the days of eternity." German Old Testament scholars Kiel & Delitzsch in their 10 volume commentary on the OT clearly demonstrate that this passage, a prophecy concerning the Messiah refers to Jesus Christ’s pre-existence when they write, that: “the future Ruler of Israel, whose goings forth reach back into eternity, is to bring forth from the insignificant Bethlehem, like his ancestor David. The descent of David from Bethlehem forms the substratum not only for the prophetic announcement of the fact that the Messiah would come forth this small town, but also for the divine appointment that Christ was born in Bethlehem, the city of David.” Dr. Thomas McComiskey, esteemed professor of OT & Semitic languages at Trinity Evangelical Divinity school states in the Expositor’s Bible commentary that the Hebrew grammar & syntax of Micah 5:2, in the terms “Old (qedem) & (yeme olam) denote great antiquity as well as eternity in the strictest sense. He argues that, Christ pre-existed in eternity past & only in Jesus Christ does this prophecy find fulfillment. (p427). Dr. Pocock, the highly respected English Arabic & Hebrew scholar, who occupied both the chairs of Arabic & Hebrew at Oxford argued that the term “of old, from everlasting” signals a description of Christ’s eternal generation, or His going forth as the Son of God, begotten of His father before all worlds” John 1:1-3 we find these Words,

In the beginning was the Word, & the Word was with God, & the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, & apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

This is a VERY simple statement of pure-and-simple plurality-in-unity.

John 1:14 the Apostle John writes, “& the Word became flesh & dwelt amongst us & we beheld His glory as the only begotten of the Father, full of grace & truth”

I am well aware of the fact that Buzzard & the Unitarians argue that the Logos mentioned here by the Apostle John is not referring to a person, however, taken in context, when you view John 1:1-14 as a literary unit, the Logos can only refer to Jesus Christ who had a pre-existence & ultimately became flesh.

If these verses do not refer to Jesus Christ who became flesh, what in the World does He mean when He says, “The Word became flesh & dwelt amongst us & we beheld His glory, the glory as the only begotten of the Father” who then, if not Jesus, is the Only begotten of the Father? The context of these passages conclusively demonstrate that:

1. The Logos existed from the beginning with God.

2. The Logos is Himself God. The lit. Greek renders it ‘& God was the Word”

3. The Logos had preexistence as God.

4. All things came into being through the Logos.

5. The Logos became flesh.

6. The Logos is Himself Jesus Christ as evidenced by the fact that the Logos becomes flesh & is called the only begotten of the Father.

It is clear from the writings of the Apostle John that the only begotten of the Father refers to Jesus.

John the Baptist argues for Christ’s preexistence when he says in John 1:15 “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.” He even says it again in 1:27

John wasn’t influenced so much by the Greek philosophers as our opponents might think, he was well schooled in the Targums of which we saw taught that the Meemra’, THE WORD was YHWH.

John 8:58, Jesus Christ once again exerts His pre-existence when he stated, “Before Abraham was, I am” conclusively demonstrating that Jesus believed that He existed before Abraham.”

Dr. AT Robertson, the most renowned Greek scholar & Grammarian of the 20th century makes some interesting points here:

1. Greek is clearly saying that "before Abraham came into existence or was born"
2. Jesus is undoubtedly claiming, “eternal existence with the absolute phrase used of God.” ego eimi
3. The contrast between genesthai, which is Abraham’s entrance into existence & eimi (Jesus as a timeless being) is complete.

Did they not want to stone him because he was claiming to be deity? Well The "I am" phrase is how the OT Septuagint translators render the Hebrew "I AM" of Ex 3:14. This "I am" statement of Jesus is immediately understood by the Jews, who pick up stones to execute the proper sentence for blasphemy (Lev 24.16).

John 17:5, another devastating verse against the Unitarian argument against the Pre-existence of Christ, Jesus said,

5"Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

Hey here is a question for you, how can Jesus have glory with the Father before the world began if he didn’t pre-exist?

It is clear from that Jesus pre-existed before His incarnation & claimed that He enjoyed fellowship with the Father before the foundation of the world.

Again Dr. A.T. Robertson writing on the Greek Grammatical construction writes,

“Jesus prays for full restoration to the pre-incarnate glory & fellowship (cf. Mat 1:1) enjoyed before the Incarnation (John 1:14). This is not just ideal pre-existence, but actual & conscious existence at the Father's side…It is small wonder that those who deny or reject the deity of Jesus Christ have trouble with the Johannine authorship of this book & with the genuineness of these words. But even Harnack admits that the words here and in verse John 24 are "undoubtedly the reflection of the certainty with which Jesus himself spoke" (What Is Christianity, Engl. Tr., p. 132). But Paul, as clearly as John, believes in the actual pre-existence and deity of Jesus Christ (Phil 2:5-11).

The Apostle Paul in Colossians 1:15-16 also clearly argues for the Pre-existence of Jesus Christ, when he writes,

15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens & on earth, visible & invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him & for Him. 17He is before all things, & in Him all things hold together.

When looking at the prepositions used in the Greek en-in; dia-through, & eis, scholars point out that these not only prove supreme deity but also his preexistence. It is absolutely obvious & inescapable from that Jesus Christ is God & that He preexisted before the world, evidenced by the fact Paul says here that Christ is before all things & in Him all things are held together.
No amount of Iesegesis & grammatical gymnastics can allow the Unitarians to escape from the obvious fact that Paul believed Jesus Christ pre-existed before His virgin Birth, to say otherwise is to go against the grammatical construction of the text & to lapse into a Presuppositional bias against Christ’s pre-existence based on previously held views against the Deity of Christ & the Trinity.

Lastly Hebrews 1:1-3 clearly demonstrates that Jesus has preexistence before His physical birth in this world, when the author of Hebrews states;
1God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions & in many ways, 2in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Verse two clearly states that God the Father made the world through Jesus Christ.
A.T. Robertson writes,
“Through whom The Son as Heir is also the Intermediate Agent (dia) in the work of creation as we have it in Col 1:16; John 1:3….the Scriptural evidence for the Pre-existence of Jesus Christ, conclusively demonstrating His deity is abundant, to argue otherwise is to go against the context of these verses, to lapse into esiegeis and a Presuppositional bias against the Trinity, not because the Scriptures actually teach your Unitarian position.”

In verse 3 the literal Greek reads that the Son is the exact character & nature of God. The word for character or representation when used in extra biblical literature refers to an exact copy, like an impression in clay or a stamping on a coin. Jesus nature is an exact copy of the nature of the Father.

But this is what Trinitarians expect…and what Unitarians have problems with.

God Wins a Great Victory in the Trinity Debate!

"That all should honor the Son even as they honor the Father, He who does not honor the Son, does not honor the Father who sent Him" (John 5:23).

Last night was by far the greatest night in my entire life!

Nothing compares with what happened last night!!!

Glory to God in the Highest!

Glory to God Almighty!

"That all the earth might know the Lord is God there is no other" (1 Kings 8:60).

Nothing, nothing, nothing compares with the incredible jubilation and absolute God glorifying joy I have in my heart for what happened in that debate last night.

Against all odds, when many people did not give us a chance, we won the debate for the glory of God!

Like the Cinderella man, we were able to beat the odds and win a debate!!!

As many of you have now heard or attended last night's classic four hour long Trinity debate held at the First Congregational Church in down town Riverside, the debate was a stunning success!

The historic Christian doctrine of the Trinity was defended, the heretical doctrines of the Unitarians were crushed and utterly defeated, the Gospel was preached in it's entirety and Almighty God was glorified.

In the last 24 hours, we have received so, so much positive feedback from the audience, saying we most definitely won the debate. We want to let everyone know that we greatly appreciate all the love, prayers, fasting, encouragement and incredible support so many of you gave us last night. It was just incredible!

To all who attended the debate last night, thank you so very much for all your love and support! We could not have done this without all of you! Thank You! Thank You!

I want to personally thank my great Brothers and debate partners Pastors Gabe and Mike from DC Fellowship in Moreno Valley for standing with me for the truth of the Gospel last night, you guys did awesome! Let's do this everyone month you guys!

Thoughts and Theological Reflections:

-Less than two weeks away from the Trinity debate in Riverside. By God's sovereign grace, I will be ready.

--Went to Joshua Tree national park yesterday, incredible display of God's glory.

--Must become more disciplined in my personal life to become the theologian that I know God has called me to be.

--Must live a life of holiness more now than ever before to be the Christian God has called me to be.

---Must separate from this world (1 John 2:15-20).

--Must be a testimony for Christ.

--Jesus calls us to deny ourselves and take up our Crosses and follow Him in a radical walk of true discipleship.

--The time has come to repent and follow Almighty God in radical commitment.

--No time to lose, life is short, the time is now, to follow Christ!

Narnia, King Kong and Thoughts About Movies

“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain" (Exodus 20:7).


Last night I went over to the local Brea movie house with some of my best friends and watched King Kong. One thing is certain, King Kong is one of the best films of the year and in my humble estimation, much better than the Chronicles of Narnia, at least in the special effects department.

And Regarding the Chronicles of Narnia, I am beginning to wonder if the movies depiction of Magic, fawn's cenataur's and other pagan imagary makes it much different than the Harry Potter series.

It is doubtful that there has ever been a film with as good as special effects as King Kong, produced and directed by Peter Jackson, the director of the Lord of the Rings, yet I was particularly grieved when I heard actor Jack Black take God's name in vain throughout the picture.

In general, I have become very concerned about my viewing of films that take God's name in vain. Deep down inside, I am beginning to wonder if Almighty God wants me to view films that continually blashpheme His holy name.

God's name is glorious and His name is to be feared throughout the earth, yet, now His name has become a common swear word by the pagans, whose destruction will be swift, when the Lord arises to judge the earth.

I for one am sick and tired of hearing God's name being taken in vain in these secular films, irrespective if they have cool special effects or not.

Attending secular films is an issue of individual conscience for every Christian and I will not begin to suggest that a Christian can or cannot see such and such movie, but my conscience is bothered by many of these things and I am wondering if I should attend movies that depict magic and take God's name in vain.

Throughout my two- decade long sorjourn in this most precious Christian faith, I have always believed staunchly and unequivocably in the historic Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity. I believe in the Doctrine of the Trinity simply and finally because the Holy Scriptures teach this and for no other reason.


The Bible teaches that there in one true and living God (Deuteronomy 6:4, 1 Kings 8:60 and John 17:3)

The Bible teaches that the Father is God (Matthew 28:19-20, John 6:27 and Romans 1:7).

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is God (Matthew 1:23, John 1:1-14, 8:58, Acts 20:28, Romans 9:5 and Col. 1:16-17).

The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is God (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 5:1-5 and 2 Corinthians 13:14)


Thus, I come to the conclusion that the Historic Christian Faith is correct and that there in God exists the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the true and living God, world without end amen.



I believe in the historic Christian Faith. I believe in the doctrine of the Trinity. I belive in justification by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ alone based on the authority of the Bible alone. Amen. This is my faith, the historic Christian faith, this is what I believe amen.

Why the Trinity Matters

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 9:6


As Christmas draws nigh, while most of us scurry about town in a frenzied panic, frequenting malls, and other consumer orientated Mecca’s, in search of that perfect Yuletide gift, it is perfectly possible to lose sight of what Christmas is supposed to commemorate: The birth and glorious incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son, the Second Person of the Divine Trinity (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1, Luke 2 and Philippians 2).

In our postmodern and entertainment driven superficial world where most people care more about the latest titillating morsel of banal gossip surrounding Jessica Simpson or Brad Pitt, where image and style triumphs over truth and substance, we as Biblical Evangelicals must fight against the tendency to conform to the worlds values and expectations.

While many Evangelicals can name Jennifer Aniston’s latest hair color or the latest titles of movies and other entertainment venues, very few of us can present a Biblical defense of the doctrine of the Trinity; a crucial teaching, of vital importance to every believer in Jesus Christ.

Today, I would like to ask the readers of this essay if they could demonstrate from the Bible, what the Word of God says about the Trinity? Can you demonstrate to your Mormon or Jehovah Witness neighbors the relevant Biblical passages the conclusively show that there exists one true and living God and in God exists the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit? Can you show from the Bible that God the Father is a distinct person from the Son? Can you show me verses that demonstrate that Jesus Christ is God the Son and is equal with God the Father? Likewise, can you show me from the Bible, that the Holy Spirit is God and a person, distinct from God the Father and Jesus Christ who shares the same essence and nature as the Father and the Son?


If you have been a Christian for some time now and you cannot still give an adequate defense of the Trinity to your family members, Co-workers and neighbors, don’t you think the time has come?

Historic and Biblical Christianity has always believed and taught that Jesus Christ is God the Son, the Second Person of the Godhead who is co-equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit of whom Jesus Christ shares the same essence. The glorious truth about Christmas is that it is supposed to celebrate the incredible divine mystery, that Almighty God came into the world, in the likeness of sinful flesh as man, born of the Virgin Mary and ultimately went to the Cross for the sins of the world that those who sincerely repent of their sins and place their faith in Jesus Christ might have eternal life. Don’t you think it is time to start being able to share this truth with your unsaved family members and friends?

“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”

Why Sound Evangelical Theology Matters

"Be dilligent to study yourself approved unto God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the Word of Truth" (2 Timothy 2:15).

"Til I come, give attention, to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine" (1 Timothy 4:12).


"Beware of false teachers, who come to you in sheeps clothing, for inwardly they are ravenous wolves" (Matthew 7:15).


Evangelical Christianity in America is in a grave crisis. In our slothful, inherently subjectivistic and anti-intellectual culture, very few people in and outside the church care much about having sound theology and communicating sound Evangelical doctrine to the greater society at large. Because of this, false teachers are ravishing the Church with destructive doctrines that are destroying peoples lives. The Apostle Peter warned of this when he wrote;

"But there were also false prophets among the people even as there will be false teachers amongst you who will secretly bring in destructive heresies" (2 Peter 2:1).


Because very few Evangelicals are engaging in the task of standing for the truth of the Christian faith and "earnestly contending for the faith once and for all delivered to the saints" (Jude 3), I have once again taken to the internet hiways to stand for Jesus Christ, against all odds for the essential truths of the historic Christian faith such as the Doctrine of the Trinity, the authority, inerrancy, inspiration and infallibility of the Bible and the doctrine of justification by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone based on the authority of the Bible alone for the glory of Almighty God alone.

Christianity is a faith worth fighting for, as the late great Evangelical apologist Walter Martin once asked, "Will you do for the truth what the cults do for a lie?"


In the days ahead I will be focusing on sound Evangelical theology that exalts Jesus Christ for the glory of God and the edification of the Christian Church.

Christianity is a faith based on the authority of the Bible, it only follows that we as Christians should study the teachings of our faith. Sound Evangelical theology matters much because it it matters much to God (Acts 17:11 and 2 Timothy 3:15-17), Sound Evangelical theology is based on the Word of God, the inspired and infallible written revelation of God.


On December 30, 2005 I will be involved in a debate on the Doctrine of the Trinity, I will keep you posted as the day of the event draws near. Let us study the Word of God to draw near to God, to know God's will and to impact our world for the glory and gospel of Jesus Christ.
